Rightly considered, it can be said that there are two seeming orientations of healing, the approach which employs symbolism, and that which is executed aurically, without the use of substances and patterns of symbolic execution.
Without much ado, there is no need to give further explanation as regard healing undertakings without the employ of healing substances and symbolic patterns of abidance. Rather let us look at the other which has been, and would continue to be, but yet giving way to the non-symbolic approach of healing ... symbolical healings.
Going back to the scriptures, we can recollect our mind to the fact that Jesus did use sand and saliva (representing water) to heal the eyes of one born blind. Who by all means was the only one so healed, as recorded. Also, we can refer our mind to the fact that Jesus and Moses had stood in states of prayer for forty days and nights; as well as of Ezekiel receiving instructions to use certain symbols, as well as lie for certain number of days, in obedience to the Will of God. Also, there is the account of Elisha and Moses healing poisoned waters by casting salt and a specific kind of tree into them, respectively; and of Naaman having to bath seven times in the river Jordan in order to be healed of his leprosy. There is the rites of Jewish healing of leprosy and, of course, the rite of the blood and hyssop rubbed over the doorpost for the safe passover of Jewish souls to freedom from slavery and subjection of soul by the Egyptians.
Naturally, these do not depict mere figurative acts, but are acts that actually elicit cosmic processes according to desired intent, in accordance of the constitutive nature of the substances used therein.
Though seemingly unfortunate, yet it is not undermining, when seen of modern day persons shying away from some of these things. The man of today is much too culturally evolved to consider these symbolic processes worth abiding to. Simply because the spirit has not evolved itself soundly enough in the sense of the understanding of the Will of God.
Keeping all quackery and sorcerous indulgences out of the picture, the man of today is not so advanced enough as would have him depend solely on energies of cosmic transmission for his healing. Nor would the employ of the symbolised methods become completely undermined. Instead, with increasing emergence of spiritual consciousness in man, more and more persons with gifted abilities that are less symbolically oriented would emerge. But not that the latter is to become extinct.
Hence in more traditionally oriented cultures, there is a great inclination of both spiritual and traditional healers to make use of symbolic patterns in healing, compared to the already more evolved cultures.
The more sensitively evolved man of today depends more on plant and other alternative substances of healing, than make use of animal parts and products for it. Rather than oblige to symbolised patterns of healing, individuals wish that abilities of transmission healing solved their problems, where not wanting to use allopatic medicines. Yet, amidst all these, neither would symbolism be completely irrelevant, so long the situations requiring its appropriation come calling.
Faith or charismatic healers are much still symbolically oriented today, compared to their holistic counterparts. Because with them there is usually the deep conscious connection with transcendental helpers and souls of faith, who guide them religiously and symbolically.
Holism as oriented today has its practitioners uninclined to defined patterns of abidance, majority of whom choose to depend more on their own capacity and`of the healing strength of nature, than incline to being religiously or charismatically guided. Holistic healing usually does not shun prayer in healing, but hardly operates as faith healing.
Thus within the embrace of those whose healing abilities are cosmically administered, we find a great number therein being symbolically oriented, except with those abilities therein that do not require the use of substances for the actualisation of intended accomplishment.
Between cosmically administered abilities (be they charismatic or holistic) and the abilities that have become received and consecrated to the service of the Light-power of God, difference exist. Commissioned persons consecrated to the Light-power of God are those who hold potentials of working miracles, at its highest levels of execution. Such high degree of connection mandatorily brings along with it the surpassing of cosmic inclinations to symbolic processes, except it is imperative to so undertake. These persons thread above the necessity for patterns and symbolisms to be able to work effectively. However, through the guidance of the Light, it is comes incumbent upon them to put men through period of dedication to healing, lest that such sublimity of grant be undermined.
In spiritual healing, no one need shy from being symbolically directed upon, for that which comes from God is always good. All that is needed is to identify the quarks from the genuine, so that the priced values of soul are not unwarrantingly trampled upon.
Finally, man must realise that symbolism is an intrinsic aspect of Creation expression and execution of processes. Here and in the beyond, as well as in the higher and highest spheres of existence, symbolism continues to exist as is deemed necessary. It is foreseen that generational mankind would not succeed in doing away with the symbolism that actually accord with Paradise existence. Such symbolisms that cuts across the use of candle lights, altar table, altar chalice, healing chalice, the bread and wine, water, fire, etc.
More refined abilities of healing simply signifies less, and not total abrogation of functional earth symbolisms.
